Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 (2014) (V) Directed by Jeff Tremaine

Another .5 movie from the boys of Jackass only with a slight twist to it this time. "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" of course already was different from the usual Jackass craziness but so is this "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5", which feels more like an extra to put on the "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" DVD instead and that's basically more of a making off than an actual new version of "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa", as its title probably still would suggest to you. Sounds like a disappointing thing but you know what, it's pretty interesting as well as surprisingly fun to watch!

If memory serves me well, I enjoyed watching "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" but I had lots of problems with it as well, especially in regards to its main concept. Main problem for me was that the movie was trying to tell a story through a whole bunch of random and unrelated sketches. Kind of like the 'Borat' approach, only less successfully executed, also because they weren't always taking things far enough and a lot of the sketches already had been done before, in one way or another. This movie is still featuring a whole bunch of random sketches in it as well but the only difference is that it isn't trying to tell a story. It's randomness is what makes this movie far more fun to watch in my opinion. It isn't just only showing some unreleased sketches though but it's also featuring the cast & crew, who seem more mature as opposed to how they behaved in any of the other Jackass related movies, talking about how they came up with certain ideas and executed them. It's a lot of trial and error really and we also get to see some early test footage that isn't quite working out yet. Sounds lame and unfunny perhaps but it's interesting to see how they tried out certain things and developed ideas and characters that didn't work out at first eventually into something truly hilarious and successful.

It's still surprising to see how certain segments that are in this movie didn't make it into the actual original movie. Perhaps it ruined the flow and distracted too much from its main story involving the Irving Zisman character and his 'grandson' but in my opinion this movie contains some moments that are far more funny and creative than anything that I have seen in the original "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa". So yes, for that reason alone already the DVD is worth picking up. Especially for those who want more of Spike Jonze as Gloria, there is plenty to enjoy and stuff to laugh at.

A both interesting and very funny DVD to watch but it should have been just an extra on the "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" DVD really.
